The leaders accuse government officials in Marsabit County of not following the presidential directive and want those who go against the order to face the law.
Political leaders in Marsabit county want president William Ruto’s directive on issuance of identity cards implemented without delay, accusing some government officials of derailing the process by demanding vetting.
According to the leaders, the president’s directive was express and should not be questioned asking the government officials to work closely with community leaders in the issuance of the national identification card.

Early this year President William Ruto signed a Presidential Proclamation to officially abolish Identification Cards vetting for residents of the Northeastern region.
The President said the move will see the residents of Northern Kenya acquire national identification documents with ease.
Ruto termed the signing of the Presidential Proclamation on Registration and Issuance of IDs to Border Counties as an end to unjust and disenfranchising practices.
The President added that for years, residents of Northeastern have endured extra-vetting and ethnic profiling by the State before they acquire birth certificates and national identity cards.
