The government has announced significant progress in delivering on its election pledges as President William Ruto’s administration marks three years in power.
Speaking during a press briefing at Harambee House Annex on Monday, Government Spokesperson Hon. Dr. Isaac Mwaura outlined milestones achieved under President William Ruto, with a strong focus on job creation, agricultural reforms, digital expansion, and social welfare.
Agriculture remains a cornerstone of the government’s agenda with the revival of six cotton ginneries in Busia, Bungoma, Kitui, and Embu creating 700 jobs, while the distribution of 100 high-volume grain dryers is expected to generate 10,000 jobs through cooperatives and small enterprises. Overall, more than 23,000 rural jobs have been created across cotton farming, ginning, and textile activities.
Thirty-one refurbished Constituency Industrial Development Centres (CIDCs) are projected to create 9,000 jobs. In addition, the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA) has directly supported over 2,000 youth jobs.
Nearly 300,000 jobs have emerged in freelancing, e-commerce, and the creative sector. The rollout of 50,000 kilometers of fiber optic cable, 1,500 Wi-Fi hotspots, and 404 digital hubs has boosted nationwide connectivity. More than 1.9 million youth have been trained in ICT skills such as coding, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence.
Today, over 40 million Kenyans conduct transactions online, with 21,500 government services digitized. Education and human capital development have also seen significant progress. Since 2022, 76,000 teachers have been recruited, with an additional 24,000 positions advertised this year.
Abroad, bilateral labour agreements have enabled over 452,000 Kenyans including 586 nurses to secure employment opportunities overseas.
The government has invested in primary health services through 18,831 trained and equipped Community Health Promoters (CHPs). Another 71,000 CHPs receive a monthly stipend of KSh 2,500, ensuring improved health service delivery at the community level.
Investments in industry and Special Economic Zones (SEZs) continue to create opportunities.
Export Processing Zones have added 14,000 jobs, with four new SEZs projected to generate another 5,000 jobs. In total, SEZs have contributed 11,000 new jobs.Tourism continues to anchor Kenya’s economy, supporting 1.6 million direct jobs and over 3.1 million related jobs.
Meanwhile, 32,839 youth have been trained in entrepreneurship and accessed KSh 400 million in loans.
Dr. Mwaura reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring inclusive development, saying the governmentsplan is on course to build “a stronger, more prosperous future for all Kenyans without discrimination.”
