The Voice of Palestine, a humanitarian initiative comprising of leading Muslim organizations in Kenya, has today launched a nationwide tree-planting campaign to raise funds for Palestinians currently facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.
The initiative, which includes Jamia Mosque Committee Nairobi, National Muslim Leaders Forum (NAMLEF), Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM), and the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK), among others, was officially unveiled in Nairobi with a call to action for all Kenyans to plant trees and donate towards the cause.
Dubbed “Plant a Tree, Save a Life,” the campaign seeks to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to Palestinians suffering under ongoing bombardment and siege, while simultaneously contributing to the Government of Kenya’s climate and reforestation agenda led by President William Samoei Ruto.
Speaking during the launch event, former Mandera County Senator Billow Kerrow highlighted the dual purpose of the campaign: “We stand with the people of Palestine in their time of greatest need. But as we plant these trees, we are also fulfilling our duty to this nation by restoring our environment, mitigating climate change, and securing a greener future.”
The campaign aligns with President Ruto’s vision of increasing Kenya’s forest cover to combat the devastating effects of deforestation and climate change.
Donations raised through the initiative will be channeled towards humanitarian aid, including food, medicine, and shelter for affected families in Gaza.
The Voice of Palestine initiative joins the global community of conscience in strongly condemning these atrocities. They have called on the Government of Kenya to amplify its voice on the international stage and take meaningful action to support efforts toward achieving lasting peace and justice for the Palestinian people.
Gaza is currently enduring one of the worst humanitarian crises in recent history due to the ongoing Israeli siege and relentless bombardment, which has pushed millions to the brink of starvation.
Israel has maintained a blockade on Gaza for 18 years, and since March 2 has sealed all border crossings, blocking the entry of humanitarian aid and worsening already dire conditions in the enclave.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, over 150 people, including over 80 children, have died of starvation since Israel launched its attack in October 2023.
Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has killed more than 60,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The unrelenting bombardment has devastated the enclave and triggered a deepening hunger crisis.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
