The family of Siaya Senator and ODM elder Oburu Oginga has reassured the public that he is in good health, dismissing growing speculation about his condition. In a statement issued on Wednesday, his son, Jaoko Oburu Odinga, explained that the senator travelled to Dubai for a short rest after an intense and emotional period marked by the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga last month.

The family noted that Oburu had been heavily involved in numerous engagements in the weeks leading up to his trip, including the ODM 20th anniversary events, and had hardly had time to mourn his brother. Jaoko mentioned that the last few weeks had been overwhelming, with constant visitors offering condolences, funeral arrangements to manage, and even the recent passing of an aunt.

He clarified that the senator’s brief time away was simply to recuperate, and that he is expected to return on Friday. The statement was also intended to stop rumours that emerged after news surfaced about his Dubai visit.

Following Raila’s death, Oburu has been actively participating in party consultations, strategy meetings, and public engagements. After the ODM anniversary celebrations, he travelled to Kasipul to campaign for party candidate Boyd Were ahead of upcoming by-elections, addressed various rallies, met local leaders, and led several discussions on the party’s next steps.
